We make fullest use of the Law of Dharma by using our gifts to serve others and ourselves. When we’re in alignment with our dharma, we experience more harmony, grace, and spontaneous fulfillment because we’re open to the field of pure potentiality, which is the source of everything that manifests in the physical universe.
Following Your Dharma
There are three elements to applying the Law of Dharma and fulfilling your life’s purpose:
1.) Discover your true Self. In our modern world, many people are identified with the temporary aspects of our conditioned self, such as our body, our mind, our accomplishments, our possessions, and so on. Our true Self is much, much more than these external attributes. It is eternal and boundless. It is pure awareness, pure love, and pure happiness. We can cultivate our experience of our true Self through practices such as meditation and yoga.
2.) Discover and express your unique talents. When you’re completely absorbed in expressing your talent, time seems to stand still. You love what you’re doing and you enter the blissful state of timeless awareness. Keep in mind that your unique talent may not correspond with your job title and that it is possible to express your unique talents in a variety of occupations. Perhaps you are a natural teacher, able to connect with students and teach in a way that awakens people’s enthusiasm and ability to learn. You may be expressing this talent in a traditional school setting – or with your family, co-workers, or congregation. If you’re not sure what your talents are, begin to look for clues. Notice those activities that make you lose track of time and fill you with joy. Make a list of everything you would love to do if you had all the time and money in the world.
3.) Use your talents to serve humanity. When you ask yourself How can I use my gifts to help others? How can I serve with love? you automatically go beyond the ego into the domain of spirit. You let go of worry and struggle and align with the infinite field of intelligence.
As you apply the Law of Dharma in your own life, remember that dharma is something that can evolve over time. As you meditate on a regular basis, you will naturally find yourself coming into greater alignment with your purpose as clarity and awareness expands. Stay receptive and attentive and you will notice more and more opportunities to fulfill your dharma every day.
