My Daily Self-Care Routine by Devi Brown, Chopra Global's Chief Impact Officer
Hey there! Devi Brown here. I am Chopra Global’s Chief Impact Officer and for those enjoying the new Chopra app, mine is the voice that shares space with you each day in meditation. Having a daily practice has radically transformed my life, and I am so excited to share some of it with you here now. When we think about building or enhancing our mindfulness routine, it is so important to do things that make us feel good and rest within the four pillars of wholeness, touching on something nourishing for our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual selves.

It can be a bit overwhelming at first and absolutely takes some time and finesse to perfect, but the addition of a consistent daily practice is what will keep you connected to the flow of your highest self and allow you to sharpen and expand the areas of your life where you are looking to experience growth. Don’t worry, building a routine is not something you can get wrong! Take a look at mine and consider using it as a starting place for the one you will build for yourself.

Morning Routine

I try to start each day as centered as possible, even before I get out of bed. As a working mom of a toddler, my days start pretty early and run long, so I try to sneak in moments for myself before the flow of the day really gets going. Depending on the day, my routine starts between 4–6 a.m. I love to start with a variety of grounding breathing exercises followed by my Primordial Sound Meditation practice and prayer.

After my breathing exercises and Primordial Sound Meditation, I head to my vanity where I have my favorite heart-centered affirmations posted on my mirror. I repeat each affirmation out loud with clarity, confidence, and gratitude. A huge part of my wellness practice centers around beginning and ending each day with rituals that include lighting candle offerings, burning copal incense, and connecting to my chakra points.

Afternoon Routine

Working from home can be challenging, and I’ve found that adding more intentional moments for mindfulness mid-day have help me stay aligned and joyful. Every two or three hours I take five to 10 minutes to have a tickle session with my son, go outside and plant my feet on the soil, or smell the Mexican sage growing in my garden. This keeps me connecting to gratitude for all that is. I’m solar powered so access to sunshine and fresh air is a must for me to feel like the most radiant version of myself!

Breakfast and dinner can be all over the place, but I try to take my time with my lunch. My favorite meal is a big veggie salad in an extra-large ceramic bowl that makes me smile when I use it. I never pick up my phone or try to multitask while I’m having this special meal for myself. I focus on flavors and let my thoughts wander to whatever directions they feel led. Lunchtime is all about connecting to my sacred creativity and nourishing my mind and body.

Evening Routine

Part of staying consistent with my daily routine is being flexible to get a workout in wherever it fits. Lately, that has meant creating time at the end of my day. I love doing some mat Pilates or getting on my bike. Creating movements with my body and sweating help release negative or stagnant energy as it keeps me feeling a high vibe.

I end my day with a guided meditation from our Chopra app, centering breathwork, sound therapy from my quartz sound bowl set to the Om frequency, brief journaling, and more candle and incense rituals. My p.m. practice has become one of the greatest joys of my day and is a non-negotiable part of my evening. This leads me to having deeply restful sleep and releasing any built-up stress so I can start the next morning fresh and grateful!

Building your daily routine is a sacred experience between you and the universe. It’s like a cosmic GPS—once you begin it, you will always be able to find your way back to yourself when challenges occur. The most important part of building your practice isn’t so much what you do, but the self-love you build upon when you keep a promise to yourself and choose to nourish yourself first. Whether you are able to squeeze in 45 minutes once a day or just five, it’s enough. And good news, when you use the Chopra app, I can join you each day! You can effortlessly weave in our daily meditations as part of the way you show up for yourself. Cheers to the journey!
