Satisfaction at Work: Cultivating Sattva
On my personal journey in medicine, although I loved helping people in the conventional medical environment, over time practicing in the western medical paradigm became increasingly dissatisfying and not in alignment with why I became a doctor. One day, when I realized that I was calculating how many years until I could retire, I had an ‘aha’ moment where I decided that rather than stay in a job that was unsatisfying, or count the days until I could quit, I needed to make a change.

Balancing Strength and Softness: Tapping Into Your Warrior Spirit

Seeking balance can be a fickle thing, and finding the right time to tap into our power to move forward versus surrendering and letting go can be challenging. The concept of yin and yang dates from the third century BCE in Chinese philosophy and is the idea that all things exist as inseparable and contradictory opposites that attract and complement each other.

DIY Wind Chimes

We could all benefit from a little more peace in our lives. And, one way to invite more calming energy into your home is through sound, particularly the relaxing sound of wind chimes. Much like attending a sound bath, listening to wind chimes can have a soothing effect on the mind, helping to lower stress levels and feelings of anxiety as well as improve mood. On top of inviting peace and relaxation into your space, wind chimes are also believed to attract positive energy and ward off back luck.

Adopt the Practice of Writing Morning Pages to Boost Creativity

In a culture that has commodified the fruits of creativity to the degree that ours has, it can be easy for us to feel cut off from our inherent creative energy if we are not producing something tangible. In reality, creativity is not a special stream that only some of us can tap into and enjoy. By the very virtue of being alive and human, we have the ability and power to create. In our everyday choices - from preparing a meal to planning our weekend activities - we engage with our imagination and, in the process, we shape and build our lives. This is creativity in its most essential form. You do not have to identify as an artist to enjoy this power.

A Meditation for Enhanced Creativity

Not many of us are tapped into our creative potential all of the time, but wouldn’t it be nice if we could access it more often? Creativity is innate to our being, but it can feel difficult to move beyond the noise of the mind enough to tap into this place on a regular basis. Meditation provides us the chance to step into the seat of the witness and calm down our mental chatter– making it easier to access this creative nature.

Art as Meditation: In the Flow With Watercolor

Meditation isn’t just a practice of sitting in stillness, it’s a practice of presence, focus, flow, letting go, and freedom. And, in many ways, creating art can have the same effect. From pottery to dance, there are many ways to experience art as mediation. One way to get into that meditative state in art is through painting with watercolors. “The way watercolors practically have a mind of their own, blending together in unexpected ways, reminds me of how beautiful it can be to lean into the unknown and unexpected — not just in painting, but in your own life,” says watercolor artist Liv Lane.

The Healing Power of Creativity

Almost everyone appreciates the power of creativity. Unique things or novel ideas can catch our eye, brighten our day, and ignite change. Creativity is inspiring, and feeling inspired is fun! Of course, having fun is its own kind of medicine. Fun enhances our sense of connection (to others, self, and life). It reduces stress and increases happiness. Creativity, specifically, can help your business bloom and your life stay fulfilling.

A Yoga Practice to Increase Creativity

We are innately creative beings, but living in a state of flow when it comes to inspiration and creative output is difficult for many of us. Life has its ups and downs, and everyday stressors and to-do’s can block us from accessing our creative potential. Practices like pranayama, meditation, and yoga can be incredibly helpful in shifting energy and clearing our minds to help us tap back into our creative nature.
