COVID-19 Event Update

As always, the health, safety, and well-being of our community is our top priority. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation regarding COVID-19, especially as it pertains to our live events. We have made the difficult decision to reschedule our Seven Spiritual Laws retreat in Mexico and our Infinite Possibilities retreat in Canada.

Ensuring Health and Safety at our Events

Our team is receiving up-to-the-minute announcements and recommendations from the CDC and departments of health in the locations where our retreats are hosted and will follow their guidelines for event organizers, in both the pre-planning and onsite.

We are ensuring our event locations follow the recommendations of the World Health Organization and local public health and government authorities – including but not limited to the following:

General Guidelines

  • Reinforce personal hygiene (hand hygiene and cough etiquette) throughout the operation.
  • Provide both guests and employees with increased access to hygiene materials such as tissues and hand sanitizer stations.
  • Stock properly applicable disinfectant products.
  • Closely monitor employee health. Encourage symptomatic employees to stay home.

Guest Rooms

  • Thoroughly clean and disinfect all hard surfaces.

Public Areas

  • Increase cleaning and disinfection frequency, at least hourly for surfaces frequently touched by guests and employees.
  • Clean and disinfect public restrooms at least three times daily.
  • Provide alcohol-based hand sanitizer stations just outside of public restrooms.

Dining Room, Kitchen, and Back of House

  • Provide alcohol-based hand sanitizer stations.
  • Increase cleaning and sanitizing frequency. Begin disinfecting hard surfaces frequently touched by guests and employees.
  • Diligently practice food safety procedures to help prevent cross contamination by infected individuals.

Laundry

  • Follow high level influenza control procedures to collect laundry, such as use of individual bags for each room.
  • Wash laundry thoroughly.
  • Immediately remove and wash clothes or bedding that have blood, body fluids, and/or secretions or excretions on them and ensure they are bagged in dissolvable bags.
  • Wear disposable gloves while handling soiled items. Wash hands immediately after removing your gloves.
  • Read and follow directions on labels of laundry or clothing items and detergent. In general, wash and dry with the warmest temperatures recommended on the clothing label.

Employees

  • Closely monitor employee health. Reinforce personal hygiene and cough etiquette.
  • Encourage symptomatic employees to stay home.
  • Identify critical employees and functions – develop a business continuity plan. Consider the ability for employees to work from home.
  • Provide hand sanitizer stations, Ready to Use (RTU) disinfectant spray or wipes, and tissues for employees.
  • Have employees disinfect all personal hard contact surfaces, i.e., desk, telephone, and computer keypad, etc.
  • Educate and inform all employees of pandemic status and proper infection control procedures.
  • Re-enforce employee protocols for access to bio-hazard spill kits and personal protective equipment in the event of an incident.

Onsite, we reserve the right to restrict guest access to any event activity if a guest displays signs of illness. Additionally, we are recommending all guests attend prepared with the extra protection efforts such as the below:

  • Avoid physical contact with other guests
  • Travel with your own yoga mat
  • Pack an ample supply of hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes

Upcoming Retreat Location Updates

Riviera Maya, Mexico

In light of the developing situation with the coronavirus, we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our Seven Spiritual Laws retreat in Mexico, previously planned for this coming May. The retreat will remain at the Fairmont Mayakoba but will now take place February 24–28, 2021.

Mont Tremblant, Canada

In light of the developing situation with the coronavirus, we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our Infinite Possibilities retreat in Canada, previously planned for this coming July. The retreat will remain at the Fairmont Mont Tremblant but will now take place July 15-19, 2021.

Protect Yourself

While there is much about COVID-19 that remains uncertain, we do know that personal hygiene is of critical importance to limit the spread of disease. Here are some prevention tips from the CDC:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.
  • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
  • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

In addition to basic preventive measures, we encourage people to continue all of the healthy daily practices that we teach at Chopra to keep your immune system strong: meditation, ample sleep, good nutrition and regular exercise. Immune supportive herbs and supplements such as ashwaganda, amalaki, holy basil, elderberry, and echinacea, among others, can also be considered with the other preventive practices. Always check with your healthcare provider before starting new herbal supplements.

Separating fact from fiction

We’re aware that there’s a lot of speculation and hype surrounding the impact of COVID-19 globally and that it can be hard to distinguish fact from fiction.
